Parts 1 & 2 of 'Leaving My Father's House' at the icehouse 'Sleepwalking to Cocoon' - the first section of the exhibition - highlights of the 1st half of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale in 9 semi-abstract story panels. When confronted with depravity in her home the heroine escapes, gets captured by another kingdom, but because she is unrecognized she remains safe. The cocooned body-cast-works in this room represent the structure that we intuitively create for ourselves for simple protection - or consciously create as safe places for transformation to occur within. The tenth cast panel represents the fire pit in the kitchen where the heroine is now working. This marks the beginning of the 2nd section of the exhibition and speaks of the heat required for transformation. The panel anticipates the ethereal 3.5 minute video entitled ‘Three Dresses. Safely hidden in another kingdom ‘Allerleirauh’ secretly tries on the dresses of light- symbols of pure masculine, feminine and universal energy-and stirs aspects of her consciousness. She awakens. 'The End of the Fairy Tale', a small body-cast installation next on the path comments on the reality of environmental disasters and their potential effect on all life. The ‘featured’ disaster is the recently discovered Great Pacific Gyre, a deep-sea toxic depository of plastic debris that is 4x the size of Texas. The computer monitors positioned above the cast figures ran, with the consent of their directors, the documentaries ‘Ocean Trashed’, The Cove, and The Story of Stuff.
