Rose Johnson was an exceptional painter, a performance artist, an illustrator and one of the pioneers in the Phoenix art community. Helen Hestenes, owner of the Icehouse Alternative-Art Museum( i.a.m.), long time friend and supporter of Rose's work, requested that Katherine design and build a temporary deep-water grotto for the memorial event held two weeks after Rose's sudden and tragic death.
